Phnom penh: The National Police Chief is hopeful that Cambodia will assist in extraditing suspects involved in the ‘Kok An case.’ However, he acknowledged that each nation has the prerogative to make its own decisions regarding such matters.
According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Gen. Kittirat Panphet, the national police chief, provided an update on the ongoing investigation, revealing that arrest warrants have been issued by the Technology Crime Investigation Police for seven suspects. These suspects include five Thai nationals and two Cambodian nationals. Investigations are currently underway to determine how these individuals acquired Thai nationality and to trace the origin of their Thai national ID cards.
Regarding the pursuit and apprehension of the suspects for prosecution, Pol. Gen. Kittirat emphasized the complexity of this extraterritorial case, stating that it requires consideration by the public prosecutor. The subsequent steps involve issuing a Red Notice and seeking the assistance of international police to locate and arrest the suspects, leveraging existing extradition treaties between countries.
When questioned about the anticipated cooperation from Cambodian authorities, Pol. Gen. Kittirat expressed a reliance on the issuance of a Red Notice. He noted that if Cambodia chooses not to extradite the suspects, it remains within their sovereign rights. Nonetheless, he assured that the Thai police would exhaust all available measures to ensure justice is served.
