Police Prepare to Conduct In-Depth Investigation of Cambodian Man Suspected as Spy

Lamduan: Police questioned a Cambodian man who used four names and claimed to have served in the BHQ, but no longer does. Officials are skeptical of his statement, fearing he may have infiltrated the unit as a spy.

According to Thai News Agency, Lamduan Police Station in Buriram Province arrested the Cambodian man at the residence of his Thai wife. The man was found wearing a military uniform with the BHQ insignia. Upon questioning, he claimed to have been a soldier in the BHQ unit but is no longer affiliated with it. He stated that he is currently working in Thailand and was a victim of impersonation.

The investigation uncovered that the individual had used four different names, none of which matched official records. He asserted that he initially entered Thailand legally but recently crossed the border illegally through a natural channel in Sa Kaeo Province, allegedly paying 4,000 baht to a smuggler. Despite these claims, officials are doubtful of his narrative, suspecting he might be an undercover agent relaying information on Thai security movements to Cambodia.

Further examination of the man’s phone revealed images of him dressed in military attire and holding a firearm. As a result, police plan to charge him for illegal possession of a firearm and for entering Thailand without legal permission.
