Border Patrol Police Region 2 expanded their investigation and arrested two suspects, seizing over 1.6 million methamphetamine pills. One of them had just been released from prison less than a month after serving a drug sentence.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Phanthep Saokoson, Deputy Governor of Khon Kaen Province, along with Pol. Col. Kanit Klinsrisuk, Deputy Commander of Border Patrol Police Region 2, held a press conference announcing the arrest of Mr. Thiraphong, or Beer, 21, who had previously been arrested with 63 methamphetamine pills and had been released from prison less than a month ago, and Mr. Sitthiphong, or Bo, 28. Both men confessed to being contacted by Laotians to pick up the drugs in Wan Yai District, Mukdahan Province, for a fee of 50,000 baht and to deliver 600,000 pills to Khon Kaen Province.

This arrest follows the arrest on September 1st by the 22nd Border Patrol Police Division of four suspects and approximately 1,700,000 methamphetamine pills seized in Namon District, Kalasin Province.

Later, intelligence officers expanded their investigation until they learned that a group of people were hired to transport drugs from the border area of Mukdahan Province into the inner part of the Northeast. They therefore integrated with local security units to join the operation. Until approximately 8:30 p.m., officers found a suspicious vehicle driving on Thinanon Road, the new road from Mukdahan Province heading to Kalasin Province, so they followed it.

At 10:30 p.m., a suspicious vehicle arrived at the Yang Talat traffic light intersection. The arresting officers then identified themselves and searched the vehicle. They found 1,612,000 methamphetamine pills in black plastic bags in the passenger compartment behind the driver and in the trunk.
