Police to hold art festival to realize disability-friendly environment

The National Police (Polri) will hold the Police Art Festival on December 16-17, 2022, at the Taman Ismail Marzuki Park, Jakarta, as a form of commitment to creating an inclusive, safe, and disability-friendly environment.

“This festival carries the concept of simplicity and environment-friendly in its various activities,” Polri’s Head of Public Relations, Inspector General Dedi Prasetyo, remarked here on Thursday.

Prasetyo said the festival, part of commemorating the International Day of Disabled Persons on December 3, is a manifestation of Polri’s attention for artists and intention to present its artworks to several communities.

The festival will be attended by disabled artists, street artists, and representatives from several regional police. A total of 45 teams are involved, comprising 10 regional police teams, 15 teams of disabled artists, and 20 teams of street artists.

Prasetyo said there will be no winner in the festival, as it is not about competition. Meanwhile, the festival will offer painting activities and mini concerts with street artists as well as traditional dance performances from public extraordinary schools in Jakarta.

“Of course, this activity will involve many communities and local artists that aims to appreciate the local street artists as well as create a disability-friendly community environment,” Prasetyo explained.

The Police Art Festival, themed “Creating an Inclusive, Safe, and Disability-Friendly Community Environment,” showcases the Police’s role in creating a fair and friendly environment for people with disabilities.

In addition, the National Police called for the younger generation to play a role in accelerating national economic recovery and building a spirit of collaboration in expressing artistic and cultural values in Indonesia.

Meanwhile, the festival coordinator Brigadier General Gatot Repli Handoko stated that the festival provides protection and equal service for people with disabilities.

He noted that the festival epitomizes fighting for the rights of disabled persons and improving communication between Polri and the community.
