Port Authority of Thailand Opens Free Cancer Screening for Women in Khlong Toei

Bangkok: The Port Authority of Thailand (PAT) has inaugurated a complimentary breast and gynecological cancer screening service for women in Khlong Toei.

According to Thai News Agency, this initiative, in collaboration with the Kanchanabharami Foundation, is part of the “October: World Breast Cancer Prevention Month” campaign, honoring His Majesty the King. The screenings were conducted from October 30th to 31st at the PAT ARENA building, with Mr. Kriangkrai Chaisiriwongsuk, Director of the PAT, presiding over the ceremony alongside Dr. Somyot Deerasmi, Chairman of the Kanchanabharami Foundation.

Mr. Kriangkrai Chaisiriwongsuk highlighted the importance of the Breast and Gynecological Cancer Screening Unit, noting that this is the third such event aimed at providing early cancer screening access to Thai women, particularly those at risk and underprivileged. The focus on breast and cervical cancers is due to their prevalence and potential severity. Early detection significantly increases the chances of successful treatment.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has been a continual supporter of the foundation’s cancer prevention efforts. In 2024, in celebration of His Majesty the King’s 72nd Birthday Anniversary, the TAT will introduce a gynecological cancer screening mobile unit valued at 36 million baht. This addition will enhance the services offered by the high-performance mobile mammography unit introduced in 2021 for the TAT’s 70th anniversary. The TAT’s initiatives align with the royal directives to promote public health and improve the quality of life in Thai society.

Dr. Somyot Deerasmi expressed gratitude towards the TAT for its long-standing commitment to breast cancer prevention. The mobile screening units, supported by the TAT and endorsed by His Majesty the King, have enabled the Foundation to extend its services nationwide, making a significant impact on public health.

Over the past 11 years, the Foundation has screened over 800,000 individuals and identified around 7,000 early-stage breast cancer cases, successfully treated and cured. These efforts have contributed to increased survival rates and reduced mortality from breast and gynecological cancers among Thai women.

The PAT and the Foundation encourage public participation in the free screenings scheduled for October 30-31, 2025, starting at 8:30 a.m. at the PAT ARENA. Medical services will be provided by a specialized mobile unit and a team of medical experts. This initiative is a part of the “October: World Breast Cancer Prevention Month” project, running from October 24-November 22, 2025, in various locations across Bangkok.
