Bangkok: The Palang Pracharath Party (PPRP) has raised concerns over the future of the entertainment complex legislation following the government’s decision to withdraw the draft. The PPRP believes reinstating the complex will be challenging.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Suradej Yasawat, deputy leader of the PPRP, addressed the potential nomination of Gen. Prawit Wongsuwan, a party-list MP and leader of the PPRP, as prime minister. The ongoing debate stems from differing opinions on the commencement of his parliamentary term. Mr. Paiboon Nititawan, the party secretary, argues that the count should begin from Gen. Prawit’s first day in parliament, granting him eligibility for nomination. However, the secretary-general of the House of Representatives contends that the count should reflect the present. Mr. Suradej emphasized the need for the Council of State’s opinion on this matter and stressed that the party leader’s intentions must be clarified.
In the PPRP meeting, discussions also covered the amnesty bill slated for consideration by the House of Representatives. Initially, the PPRP opposed any of the bills, but after deliberations with the Bhumjaithai Party, they agreed to adopt its principles. The PPRP remains unsupportive of Section 112.
When questioned about the withdrawal of the entertainment complex bill, Mr. Suradet stated that the PPRP had consistently opposed the idea of casinos. He noted that while the withdrawal aligns with the party’s stance, it should have occurred sooner to prevent complications in reversing the decision.
