Bangkok: Prasert has confirmed that the government’s water management strategy aligns with its strategic plan, emphasizing the use of the central budget to support integrated efforts for sustainability. The online crime suppression unit has also achieved significant recognition by elevating the AOC to the level of receiving a UNESCO award. The government plans to propose the ‘Draft Meteorological Act’ to parliament with the aim of establishing a comprehensive framework for future earthquake management.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Prasert Chantarawongthong, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Economy and Society, addressed inquiries regarding the budget for water resources. He explained that the government has divided its master plan into five key areas: water management for consumption, creating water security in the production sector, flood and inundation management, conservation of water resource ecosystems, and integrated management efforts.
Mr. Prasert highlighted the necessity of resolving these issues across various dimensions, involving multiple agencies and projects to comprehensively cover all potential areas. This year’s water resource management plan, executed through provincial projects and the river basin committee, aims to benefit more than 2.2 million rai of land and over 800,000 households. The plan anticipates increased water storage and protection of extensive land areas, riverbanks, and wastewater treatment sites.
In terms of budget consistency, Mr. Prasert explained that most budgets are allocated for systematic problem-solving. The central budget is deemed crucial for addressing climate change-related issues promptly. The budget is categorized into five areas, with an emphasis on timely execution and equipment readiness.
Mr. Prasert assured that the government carefully considers the necessity of each budget category, including allocations for telemetry systems to simulate water flow, aligning with flood relief plans. He outlined that budgets set for economic stimulus projects will also utilize the central budget.
Regarding online crime suppression, the Prime Minister has mandated regular progress reports to the Cabinet. The Ministry of Digital Economy has collaborated with relevant agencies, elevating the AOC 1441 Center to a Technology Crime Prevention and Suppression Operation Center. This led to UNESCO awarding the center, and Mr. Prasert confirmed that these efforts have significantly reduced damages.
Mr. Prasert also addressed online gambling suppression efforts, noting that the Ministry has made recommendations to the Cabinet. Secondary laws are being considered to regulate online gambling under state supervision, aiming to curb underage gambling and ensure proper revenue collection.
Finally, Mr. Prasert discussed the Meteorological Department’s efforts to enhance earthquake monitoring and response. The draft Meteorology Act is ready for parliamentary presentation, expected to serve as a comprehensive plan for managing future seismic activities.
