President’s Visit Poised to Bolster Vietnam-Japan Relations, Says Ambassador

Tokyo – The upcoming official visit of President Vo Van Thuong to Japan from November 27-30 is set to herald a new era in Vietnam-Japan relations.

According to Vietnam News Agency, Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Pham Quang Hieu. This visit, aligning with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations, is anticipated to further strengthen their bilateral ties.

In a recent interview with Vietnam News Agency’s reporter in Tokyo, Ambassador Hieu expressed optimism about the potential impacts of President Thuong’s first visit to Japan. The occasion is marked by nearly 500 practical activities conducted by both nations to celebrate their diplomatic ties. The ambassador highlighted the strong consensus and support for the enhancement of bilateral cooperation from both states, governments, and peoples.

According to the ambassador, the two countries have highly complementary economies. Vietnam’s attributes such as a large population, dynamic and rapidly growing economy, abundant workforce, and political stability make it an attractive and reliable destination for Japanese enterprises. The cooperation in areas such as official development assistance (ODA), foreign direct investment (FDI), trade, and tourism has been fruitful and is expected to continue benefiting both countries.

With Vietnam’s focus on national modernization, there is a significant demand for modern infrastructure, advanced energy solutions, and a comprehensive education system. These needs present substantial opportunities for Japanese firms to expand their cooperation with Vietnam.

To deepen bilateral relations, the ambassador suggested enhancing reliable political relations through regular visits and meetings at all levels, particularly high-level engagements. He also recommended leveraging each other’s strengths and maintaining Japan’s status as Vietnam’s leading partner in ODA, investment, and trade. Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of collaboration in emerging fields such as digital transformation, digital economy, digital society, and green transition.
