Press freedom should be accompanied by social responsibility and remain within the corridor of human rights, Vice President Ma’ruf Amin noted in a statement here Tuesday.
The vice president made his remarks online at the Gatra Awards 2022 event on Monday (Dec 12).
“The mass media has a strategic position as social control in democratic life. Freedom of the press should absolutely be accompanied by social responsibility and remain within the corridor of human rights provisions,” Amin remarked.
He called on the media to continue to provide information to the public in a balanced and educative manner.
The vice president also sought the media’s active role to contribute to the country’s development in the post-pandemic era.
“Especially now, in an effort to overcome the impact of the pandemic, the mass media together with all elements of the nation should synergize to accelerate the country’s recovery,” he stated.
Amin applauded Gatra Media Group for its initiative to give awards to government institutions, private sectors, and individuals that have been dedicated to accelerating the nation’s recovery.
“Congratulations to all recipients of the 2022 Gatra Awards. I hope this achievement can inspire other parties to advance Indonesia through real contributions and the realization of their programs,” he affirmed.
The vice president expressed hope that such activities would encourage people to improve their quality in welcoming Indonesia Gold 2045.
“This award should also further ignite the enthusiasm of all Indonesian creative people to be more productive, innovative, and contributive in realizing Indonesia Gold 2045,” he remarked.
President Director of Gatra Media Group Hendri Firzani said that the Gatra Awards was a form of appreciation for policy makers and the private sector that optimally strive to maintain post-pandemic national economic stability.
Firzani is optimistic that this award would inspire various parties to continue working to build the nation.
