Prime Minister Affirms No Ban on Festive Events, Stresses Appropriateness

Bangkok: The Prime Minister reiterated that there is no ban on festive events, and that appropriateness will be adhered to. The Prime Minister emphasized that festivities can continue, with a focus on appropriateness. Weddings and ordinations can proceed according to tradition, while bars are allowed to operate normally but should avoid full occupancy. He expressed confidence in business operators to exercise the necessary maturity in their operations.

According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul addressed the Cabinet’s resolution, which asked for cooperation from the entertainment sector to moderate activities. He confirmed that the government has not imposed a ban on private sector festivities or concerts. This clarification came from both the Secretary-General to the Prime Minister and the Deputy Government Spokesperson, who stated that no excessive restrictions are in place.

Mr. Anutin reassured the public that weddings and ordinations could continue as usual, with traditions being observed at the public’s discretion. The consumption of alcoholic beverages is also allowed.

Regarding operational hours, Mr. Anutin mentioned that businesses could function as usual. He acknowledged the cooperation from all operators, as informed by the Minister of Tourism and Sports, and appreciated their efforts to maintain appropriateness during this period of mourning. He noted that a royal tribute ceremony would precede performances and thanked operators for their discretion.

In response to inquiries about the criteria for “appropriateness,” the Prime Minister emphasized the need for discretion. He highlighted that no specific rules are set, but each activity should be guided by the operator’s judgment. Mr. Anutin expressed confidence in the maturity of both entrepreneurs and the Thai public in understanding the appropriate level of support during such times.
