Prime Minister and UNESCO Director-General Collaborate on Ethical AI Use for Crime Prevention

Bangkok: The Prime Minister has engaged in discussions with the Director-General of UNESCO focusing on the use of AI to tackle scammers and transnational crimes. The Prime Minister announced plans for the country to become a regional hub for suppressing national crimes, emphasizing the importance of ethical AI use to prevent negative economic and social impacts.

According to Thai News Agency, the Prime Minister shared their mission to promote the ethical development and use of AI, highlighting government digital and AI policies. This includes accelerating AI’s potential benefits in fields like agriculture, medicine, language translation, and personalized learning. The discussions also addressed using AI to combat scammers and transnational crimes, a pressing global issue, with UNESCO offering support in data, knowledge, and technology to ensure ethical AI application.

The government aims to develop digital infrastructure to attract future industries to invest in Thailand, including setting up a data center. The National AI Action Plan Committee for Thailand Development (NAIC) has been established to drive AI development and implement the strategy effectively.

Additionally, the government is prioritizing the development of technology skills to keep pace with digital transformation. Efforts will be made to promote AI education in schools and utilize various AI devices. Thailand supports UNESCO’s framework for encouraging ethical AI use and governance, committing to advance these principles nationally and regionally.

Thailand is prepared to collaborate with both national and international sectors to become a key player in AI, ensuring technology benefits the population.
