Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul Prepares to Announce Policy Amid Rising Expectations

Bangkok: The Prime Minister is ready to announce his policy on September 29-30, as he views the poll results as a sweet blessing but warns of the pressures of public expectations. Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, Anutin Charnvirakul, in an interview, expressed his readiness to deliver a policy statement to Parliament. He noted that the draft policy has been submitted for review and emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the border area, while insisting on perseverance and dedication in governance.

According to Thai News Agency, the Prime Minister must stand and read the policy statement to Parliament on September 29, as required by the constitution. With less than ideal time available, Mr. Anutin expressed confidence in his party’s experience, having worked continuously over the past six years. He reassured that the hiatus taken in the past two months would not derail ongoing projects and new policy developments.

Public expectations are high amid the Prime Minister’s rising popularity, and Mr. Anutin cautioned against being influenced by popularity polls. He described public expectation as a motivator, likening it to nectar that requires reciprocation through hard work. He highlighted the Bhumjaithai Party’s quick and immediate working style, which aligns with the need for rapid results and foundational plans for future governmental success.

In terms of policy impact, Mr. Anutin referenced a recent statement by Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkaew, Minister of Foreign Affairs, at the United Nations General Assembly, which he believes reinforces confidence in the government’s position. He praised Mr. Sihasak’s performance and emphasized the importance of appointing experts to key roles.

Regarding tensions with Cambodia, Mr. Anutin advocated for patience, asserting that restraint would gain international support. He acknowledged past humiliations and reiterated his commitment to preventing any loss of sovereignty. The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of unity among the military, administrative branch, and police to ensure national security.

As the government transitions and military commanders change, Mr. Anutin urged trust in government policies. He highlighted the Bhumjaithai Party’s proactive approach in previous emergencies and expressed confidence in the government’s ability to integrate various agencies to uphold sovereignty and prioritize national interests.

Addressing concerns about whether the Foreign Minister’s UNGA participation violated legal requirements, Mr. Anutin dismissed the notion and emphasized the dignified nature of Mr. Sihasak’s actions. He assured that the Foreign Minister’s experience justifies the trust placed in him, while he focuses on delivering the policy statement to Parliament to commence governance promptly. Mr. Anutin concluded by noting that Parliament would be dissolved within four months, indicating forthcoming changes in the political landscape.
