Bangkok: The Prime Minister has expressed his lack of concern regarding the opposition’s rhetoric, insisting that his focus remains on addressing issues beneficial to the public. He criticized the opposition’s debate tactics and stated that they aim to discredit the government. Furthermore, he addressed claims made by Thawee, who has yet to come to terms with his removal from the position of Justice Minister, labeling these claims as false.
According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Anutin Charnvirakul spoke after the first day of the joint parliamentary session, during which the government delivered its policy statement to Parliament. He emphasized the importance of immediately addressing the responsibilities entrusted to the Ministry of Public Health. Anutin mentioned plans to collaborate with Dr. Cholanat Srikaew, a Pheu Thai Party MP and former Minister of Public Health, following the 2023 election. The debate, he noted, would span approximately 15 hours, with allocated times for the government, the Senate, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Anutin addressed the opposition’s criticism regarding the government’s handling of drug and cybercrime issues, stating that not all issues need to be explicitly included in government policy. He stressed the necessity of taking action, in collaboration with agencies like the Royal Thai Police, the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission, and the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, to tackle these challenges effectively.
The Prime Minister acknowledged the heated nature of the debates but viewed this as a positive development. He expressed concern over falsehoods being propagated during these discussions. Recurring issues, such as the selection of senators, the Khao Kradong land dispute, and legalized marijuana, have been repeatedly addressed by the government, he asserted. Anutin urged that the meeting would consider sound advice and respond to concerns that genuinely benefit the country and its citizens.
Anutin further commented on the opposition’s tactics, noting that some debaters received high marks for their arguments, while others, such as Pol. Lt. Col. Thawee Sodsong of the Prachachat Party, could not due to spreading falsehoods. He emphasized his intent to respond to any irrelevant or discrediting rhetoric against the government, as all evidence had been provided to support the government’s stance.
In conclusion, Anutin conveyed confidence that the public would be able to discern truthful information amidst the rhetoric. He urged understanding and patience as the government continues to prioritize public benefit. Following the parliamentary session, a cabinet meeting will address several agenda items, including the “Half-Half” project and the 2025 budget. The appointment of a spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office remains pending due to the need for qualification verification.
