Prime Minister Launches OTOP MIDYEAR 2025 with Commitment to National Economic Growth

Bangkok: The Prime Minister inaugurated the OTOP MIDYEAR 2025 event, emphasizing the government’s dedication to enhancing citizens’ livelihoods and expressing full support for the initiative. Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul credited Thaksin Shinawatra as the event’s originator and highlighted the Prime Minister’s presence as a morale booster for entrepreneurs.

According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra presided over the opening ceremony, themed “OTOP, Modern, Sustainable Thai Economy.” Key figures such as Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, along with Mr. Orsit Sampantharat, Permanent Secretary of Interior, and Mr. Sayam Sirimongkol, Director-General of the Community Development Department, attended the event along with diplomats, government executives, and private sector representatives.

During the event, the Prime Minister and the Cabinet paid homage to His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun and toured an exhibition in his honor. Mr. Anutin noted the Prime Minister’s appearance as the first in years at the OTOP fair, stating it revitalized organizers’ spirits and instilled pride.

Mr. Anutin acknowledged Thaksin Shinawatra, former Prime Minister and the current Prime Minister’s father, as the creator of the OTOP initiative. He expressed optimism for the event’s success, noting the anticipation surrounding the Prime Minister’s attendance.

The Ministry of Interior aims for OTOP to contribute at least 600 million baht to the economy, reinforcing grassroots and regional economic growth. The Prime Minister expressed personal attachment to the OTOP policy, initiated 24 years ago, and highlighted its tangible success in improving citizens’ lives.

The Prime Minister reaffirmed the government’s support for OTOP, emphasizing its role in empowering individuals across provinces to utilize their skills for economic gain. While acknowledging global economic challenges, the Prime Minister expressed confidence in the event’s success, bolstered by the presence of ministers and diplomats.

The Prime Minister visited several exhibitions, including those by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, Pracharat Rak Samakkhi Social Enterprise, and OTOP Artist Zone, showcasing culturally significant works and products.

The OTOP Midyear 2025 event runs from June 7-15, 2025, at the Impact Exhibition and Convention Center, Muang Thong Thani. Attendees can access the venue via the MRT Pink Line, currently in a testing phase with free entry to the Challenger Station area.
