Bangkok: The Prime Minister has directed the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation to conduct a comprehensive survey of flood damage and hasten relief efforts for all affected groups.
According to Thai News Agency, the Prime Minister has mandated the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) to collaborate with the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Transport, and the military to assess the impacts of the flooding. Expedited relief payments of 9,000 baht per household will be provided to those affected, and a medium- to long-term recovery plan is in preparation. Each province is tasked with daily situation monitoring.
The meeting of the Natural Disaster Management Committee (NDMC), chaired by Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul, included Deputy Prime Ministers, ministers, and senior executives from various agencies. Mr. Anutin emphasized the government’s commitment to prioritizing public welfare, noting the widespread damage to homes, farmland, and infrastructure. He urged swift action and close coordination between provincial governors and the central government to ensure prompt assistance. The Ministry of Interior, through the DDPM, will work with relevant ministries and military units to systematically survey damage and gather relief data, with daily situation reports required from all provinces for effective resource and budget management.
The Prime Minister affirmed the government’s commitment to expedite relief payments to all affected groups, including households, farmers, and infrastructure. He also announced plans for medium- and long-term recovery efforts to provide sustainable public assistance.
“Regarding flood relief, the same principles as last year apply. Everyone affected for more than seven days will receive 9,000 baht per household. This will be implemented immediately. I have ordered the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) to expedite the registration of affected villagers,” the Prime Minister stated.
