Prime Minister Paethongtarn Remains Silent on Critical Issues

Bangkok: Prime Minister Paethongtarn Shinawatra maintained her silence throughout the day as media sought her comments on several pressing issues, including international relations and domestic political matters. Despite persistent questions from reporters, she only smiled and refrained from providing any statements.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Paethongtarn, who also serves as Minister of Culture, was approached by the media on various topics, such as concerns about the Ministry of Culture’s stance on Cambodian interference in Thai cultural heritage matters. This includes issues like the registration of the ancient Cambodian wedding as world heritage and Cambodia’s demand for the return of 20 Thai antiques. Ms. Paethongtarn assured that the ministry will address these concerns but did not give further details.

Additionally, the Prime Minister did not comment on the recent announcement by the United States imposing a 36% import tax on Thai products or on the political matter involving the potential removal of her from office following a controversial audio clip with Samdech Hun Sen. When asked if she intended to avoid discussing political subjects for the time being, Ms. Paethongtarn responded with a smile, leaving the media without any concrete answers.

In a separate incident earlier in the morning, Ms. Paethongtarn shared a philosophical message on her Instagram story from Mother Sansanee Suttirat, which read, “Change is impermanent. To live in peace and happiness, you must live without suffering from change.” This message has been interpreted by some as a reflection of her current approach to the unfolding political and cultural issues.
