Prime Minister Questions Surin Governor on Lack of Budget Request for Bunker Construction

Surin: The Prime Minister inspected the bunker and asked the Surin Governor why he did not request a budget from the Ministry of Interior. During a visit to Sakon Phatthana Village, Takhian Subdistrict, Kab Choeng District, the Prime Minister engaged with local villagers, distributed supplies, and evaluated the progress of a bunker shelter construction.

According to Thai News Agency, upon arrival, the Prime Minister was presented with a white towel from a villager, which she accepted before addressing Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul. She emphasized unity by stating, ‘We are tied together as a team,’ and proceeded to distribute consumer goods to encourage the villagers.

The Prime Minister, accompanied by Mr. Chamnan Chuenta, the Governor of Surin Province, and the village headman, observed the bunker construction. She inquired about the progress, to which the villagers responded with enthusiasm, explaining that they started the previous day and aimed to complete it by the day’s end. The Prime Minister expressed gratitude for their dedication and reminded them to take care of their health during the work.

While examining the bomb shelter, the Prime Minister questioned the design and material choices, including the use of tires, which the governor explained were a result of donations due to a lack of budget. The Prime Minister questioned why the governor had not informed the Interior Ministry about the budget needs. The governor explained that temporary measures were employed due to the short duration of shootings and that government funds had been used for previous projects.

The Prime Minister further inquired about the standards and location of the shelter, prompting the governor to assure her that the constructions were safer than staying in houses, as they were made of concrete. The visit concluded with a photo session with the villagers, who praised the Prime Minister’s beauty and humorously interacted with her, leading to shared laughter.

Before departing, the Prime Minister returned the villagers’ warmth and hospitality, leaving a memorable impression during her visit.
