Prime Minister Stresses Security in Talks with “Big Lek-Sihasak”

Bangkok: The Prime Minister declined to answer questions about his talks with “Big Lek-Sihasak,” stating it was a matter of security. He emphasized the importance of the Foreign Minister’s role at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in safeguarding Thailand’s dignity and urged the public to remain confident that the country’s interests would not be compromised. The Prime Minister also announced plans to convene a National Security Council (NSC) meeting on October 2.

According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul discussed his conversations with Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkaew and Defense Minister General Nataphol Nakphanit during a parliamentary session. He reiterated the need for confidentiality on security matters, underscoring the importance of official talks with Cambodia. He stressed that any engagement with Cambodia must occur through military channels, with formal diplomatic contact pending mutual agreement.

Anutin also highlighted the smooth proceedings at the UN forum, as reported by Sihasak, who engaged with various countries to articulate Thailand’s stance. Sihasak was commended for his commitment to upholding Thailand’s honor and international standing. He assured that with his presence in the government, Thailand would not be disadvantaged in dealings with Cambodia. Anutin reiterated that all discussions with Cambodia must adhere to Thailand’s conditions, emphasizing official means of communication and the postponement of fraternal relations until an agreement is reached.
