Bangkok: Prosecutors have formally indicted Premchai Karnasuta and 23 other individuals in connection with the State Audit Office building collapse case. A spokesperson for the Office of the Attorney General confirmed that charges were filed at the Criminal Court today.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Sakkasem Nitrayok, Inspector-General of the Office of the Attorney General and spokesperson for the Office, revealed that the investigation report from the Bang Sue Metropolitan Police Station was submitted to the Office of the Attorney General, Division 8, Criminal Litigation. The report recommended indicting 23 suspects, including juristic persons and individuals, for professional offenses related to the design, supervision, and construction of buildings. These offenses include failure to comply with appropriate regulations or procedures, resulting in harm or death, and joint forgery and use of forged documents, pursuant to Sections 33, 91, 227, 238, 264, and 268 of the Criminal Code.
The Office of the Attorney General, Division 8, Criminal Litigation, set up a working group to review the case. Public prosecutors have indicted all 23 suspects for professional misconduct in the design, supervision, and construction of buildings, failing to adhere to regulations or procedures, endangering others, and causing death. Additionally, accused numbers 9 through 15 face charges of joint document forgery and the use of forged documents under the amended Criminal Code, the Building Control Act B.E. 2522, and the Government Procurement and Supplies Management Act B.E. 2560.
The list of 23 suspects includes Mr. Premchai Karnasuta, the 17th accused; Italian-Thai Development Public Company Limited, the 16th accused; and China Railway Number 10 (Thailand) Company Limited, the 18th accused. The Office of the Attorney General, Division 8, has officially filed charges against all 23 suspects with the Criminal Court, under case number A 2201/2568.
