Protesters Converge on Government House, Demand Justice and Amnesty for Section 112 Cases.

Bangkok: Various groups of protesters assembled at Government House to submit a letter to the Prime Minister, demanding justice and advocating for amnesty for those prosecuted under Section 112. The protest, composed of multiple groups with different objectives, highlighted pressing issues related to debt resolution, political rights, and regulations affecting public sectors.

According to Thai News Agency, the demonstrations began with the network group of members of the Agricultural Rehabilitation and Development Fund (ALROF) gathering near the Agricultural Land Reform Office. Approximately 100 people, led by Mrs. Nisa Khumkong, have been protesting since September 8, focusing on debt restructuring for farmers and related issues. Their demands include following up on Cabinet resolutions regarding state banks, expediting meetings with the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), and managing debts from the state promotion project.

Separately, the Thai National Development Cooperatives gathered a
bout 50-80 people on the Krung Kasem side. Led by Ms. Bunyapha Phuktham, the group has been protesting since September 23, seeking budget assistance and the formation of a joint committee to consider regulations for assistance to cooperatives.

In another protest, the Northeast Farmers’ Assembly (NFA) and Confederation gathered around 100 people at the Ministry of Education, aiming to expedite relief for those affected by government projects. Meanwhile, representatives from student organizations and the public convened to submit demands for a solution to political cases, marked by symbolic activities such as bell-ringing and letter submissions.

Additionally, the Professional Association of Public Taxi Drivers, led by Mr. Woraphon Kamkhuntod, submitted a request to cancel regulations affecting taxi drivers. Similarly, at Thammasat University, the Thai Lawyers for Human Rights and THUMBRIGHTS organized an event to review the impact of Section 112 over the past four years and discuss potential amnesty.

Later,
the Thammasat Coalition and 20 student organizations submitted a letter to Prime Minister Paethongtarn, demanding justice and amnesty under Section 112. Mr. Songkram Kitlertphairot and Mr. Somkid Chueakong received the letter on behalf of the Prime Minister. The group concluded their protest with symbolic gestures, expressing their hope for more concrete government actions in the future.
