Provide allowance to workers 7 days before Eid, companies told

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Manpower Ministry has said that the Eid Al-Fitr allowance (THR) must be paid in full to employees no later than seven days before the holiday, which is expected to fall on April 22, 2023.”The THR must be given in full, not through installments. We urge companies to disburse the THR before the due date (April 15),” Manpower Minister Ida Fauziyah said at a press conference on the 2023 THR payment policy here on Tuesday. She informed that the THR payment provisions have been outlined in Circular Letter Number M/2/HK.04.00/III/2023 concerning the Payment of THR in 2023 for Workers in Companies. The Indonesian people usually celebrate the holy day with their families, friends, and relatives, she noted. Hence, there is usually an increase in the demand for and prices of several basic commodities used in the preparations for the celebration, the minister said. “Hence, (same) as what we had implemented in the previous years, we issued the THR policy. (The disbursement of) the THR aims to help meet the needs of the workers and their families in welcoming the religious holiday,” she said. She said that the allowance has been provided to all workers who meet the legal requirements, including employees with Permanent Employment Contracts (PKWTT), workers with Temporary Employment Contracts (PKWT), as well as freelance workers. Employees who have worked for 12 months or more will be given the THR in the amount of one month’s wages, Fauziyah informed. Meanwhile, for workers who have worked less than 12 months, the allowance will be proportional, namely, the number of months they have worked multiplied by one month’s wages and divided by 12, she disclosed. She further said that companies are allowed to provide THR at a higher amount than the government’s provision. The minister informed that the export-oriented labor-intensive industrial companies, which implement the working hour and wage adjustment as stipulated in the Regulation of Manpower Minister Number 5 of 2023, are also required to pay the 2023 Eid allowance. “The (value of) wage used as the basis for calculating (the amount of) the THR is the last (value of) wage (implemented) before the wage adjustment is made,” she informed.
