PUPR Ministry Prioritizes Environmental Sustainability in IKN ASN Flat Construction

The Indonesian Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) is committed to ensuring that the construction of flats for state civil servants (ASN) and defense and security officers in the new capital city, IKN Nusantara, adheres to environmental sustainability principles. Iwan Suprijanto, the Director General of Housing at the PUPR Ministry, emphasized this commitment during a statement in Badung, Bali, on Sunday.

According to Antara News Agency, the Directorate General of Housing and the contractors involved in the project are working diligently to expedite the physical construction of the vertical housing while maintaining an eco-friendly approach. Efforts to minimize tree felling and the adoption of a green building concept are at the forefront of this initiative.

Currently, construction crews and heavy machinery are actively engaged in building the project’s perimeter fence. Additionally, the PUPR Ministry is focusing on environmental considerations in all aspects of the construction process, including land contouring and minimizing tree removal. Suprijanto has urged contractors to limit logging activities and plans for tree replantation post-construction to preserve the green and aesthetic appeal of the area.

The project, as detailed by the Directorate of Flats of the Directorate General of Housing, involves the construction of 47 twelve-story flat towers at IKN Nusantara. These flats will provide a total of 2,820 residential units, designated for ASN and defense and security officers. Each unit will cover an area of 98 square meters, with 31 towers allocated for ASN flats and 16 towers for defense and security personnel. The first two floors of each tower will house podiums, public, and social facilities, with the remaining floors dedicated to residential spaces.

The PUPR Ministry’s approach in the construction of the IKN flats highlights a significant step towards balancing developmental needs with environmental conservation, showcasing Indonesia’s dedication to sustainable urban development.
