PUPR Ministry to use bamboos for improving 2022 G20 venues

The Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Ministry will use bamboos as a main material in revitalizing the venues and infrastructure for  G20 Summit 2022 in Bali, Deputy Minister of PUPR John Wempi Wetipo said here on Saturday.

Earlier, President Joko Widodo said that he would invite G20 delegates to visit mangrove conservation area in Bali during the summit.

“To maintain the mangroves, we will mostly use bamboos, wood, and other natural elements to reduce the use of concrete to develop the summit venue,” the deputy minister said while visiting the Suwung Estuary Dam, South Denpasar sub-district, Denpasar City, Bali Province.

He informed that infrastructure development in Bali has been accelerated since early January 2022.

The project is targeted to be completed in September 2022, so the province will be ready to showcase mangroves conservation by October 2022.

“The revitalization of the Ngurah Rai Mangrove Public Forest in the Nusa Dua Estuary Reservoir includes the construction of entrance gate, drop off areas, viewing towers, pedestrians, seedling areas, and parking areas,” Wetipo informed.

He hopes that concrete actions initiated by the Mangrove Clean Up Movement can encourage more sustainable attempts to preserve nature.

“Hence, there are a lot of tasks for the ministry’s Human Settlement as well as Highways and Roads directorate generals. We will synergize to complete the revitalization before the G20 summit,” he added.

As G20 Presidency, Indonesia is seeking to promote sustainable development, mitigate climate change impacts, and restore the environment.

Earlier, the ministry has allocated Rp505.9 billion to make various preparations  for  G20 Summit in Bali.

In addition to revitalizing Ngurah Rai Mangrove Public Forest, the budget will also be used for the rehabilitation of the Nusa Dua Estuary Reservoir and the construction of the Sanur Retention Basin.

The project also includes the beautification of roads, bridges, pedestrians, and median along the routes of Pesanggaran Intersection to Nusa Dua, Jimbaran to Uluwatu, Siligita Intersection to Kempinski as well as I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport to summit venue.
