Kanchanaburi: ‘Kan Jom Phalang’ rushed to help two siblings with broken legs and heads pierced to the skull, severely abused by their drug-addicted mother, but claimed that the children were just playing amongst themselves. Mr. Kanthas Pongpaiboonwet, also known as “Kan Jom Phalang,” led the team and police officers to a house in Nong Prue Subdistrict, Nong Prue District, Kanchanaburi Province. They were there to assist a 6-year-old boy and a 3-year-old girl, siblings who suffered abuse at the hands of their biological mother. The 6-year-old boy was unable to walk due to a painful iron rod in his left calf, while the 3-year-old girl sustained a severe forehead wound after her mother slapped her, causing her head to hit a spirit house. This injury became infected and oozed pus. Additionally, a dog bit her right finger, resulting in a gaping wound that went untreated. The house was found in a state of disarray, with unwashed kitchen utensils emitting a foul odor.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Nu Daeng, th
e mother of the two children, denied harming her children and claimed they were merely engaging in play. She also refuted allegations of drug use. However, a urine test conducted by officers revealed the presence of drugs in her system, leading to her admission of drug use three days prior. Neighbors reported that Ms. Nu Daeng frequently used drugs and inflicted harm on her children. On occasion, she forced them to traverse a sugarcane field up a mountain, about one kilometer from their home, to avoid injury. She was also known to consume drugs in front of her children, even exhaling smoke into their faces. The children began mimicking her behavior by wrapping paper around themselves as if taking drugs. When neighbors attempted to intervene, Ms. Nu Daeng reportedly threatened them with sticks and knives.
For initial assistance, the Kanchanaburi Children’s Shelter will take care of the children and facilitate Ms. Nu Daeng’s treatment.
