Renovated educational facilities must support student development

Rehabilitated and renovated educational facilities and infrastructure should be used to develop students’ character, Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono has said.

Since 2019, the ministry has been given an additional task by President Joko Widodo: to rehabilitate and renovate schools, madrasas, and universities to support programs to improve the quality of human resources, he informed.

“I urge for the newly rehabilitated or renovated infrastructure and facilities to be used as well as possible to form strong characters of students,” Minister Hadimuljono remarked in an official statement received on Saturday.

After the construction of educational facilities and infrastructure has been completed and managed properly, the assets can be handed to regional governments and schools, in accordance with the applicable regulations, he added. This is a form of transparency and accountability in the use of the state budget.

The ministry has completed the rehabilitation and renovation of three schools in East Java province: 5 State High School, Surabaya city; Labang Elementary School, Bangkalan district; and Sumber Tangkil Elementary School, Malang district.

Hadimuljono participated in the handover of the temporary management of the rehabilitation and renovation of educational facilities and infrastructure in East Java, which was hosted at 5 State High School, Surabaya city, on Saturday.

With the completion of the rehabilitation and renovation of school facilities and infrastructure, it is expected that they can be used immediately to support learning activities.

The rehabilitation and renovation of schools in East Java have been conducted by the East Java Regional Settlement Infrastructure Center since January 14, 2022, and the project has been completed to meet the August 31, 2022, contract.

The scope of work included structural, architectural, mechanical, and electrical works, supporting buildings, facilities, and infrastructure for solar power plants, and other supporting facilities.

The budget of Rp22.5 billion for the rehabilitation and renovation of schools in East Java was sourced from the 2021–2022 state budget. The rehabilitation and renovation were carried out by PT Graha Yasa Anugerah-PT Pandan Jaya Indonesia (KSO).
