Rome Urges Thaksin to Prove Innocence Before Security Committee.

Bangkok: Mr. Rangsiman Rome, Deputy Leader of the Prachachon Party and Chairman of the Committee on State Security, Thai Border Affairs, National Strategy and National Reform, has urged former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra to appear before the Security Committee to prove his innocence. Rome emphasized the importance of clarifying any doubts regarding Thaksin’s health and the circumstances surrounding his treatment at the Police Hospital, suggesting that if Thaksin was genuinely unwell and did not exert undue influence, this could be a pivotal moment for transparency.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Rangsiman highlighted that the committee’s invitation to Thaksin and related agencies to attend a meeting on November 22, 2014, is an opportunity to address societal criticisms. He pointed out that if those invited choose not to attend, it signals a missed opportunity to clarify their actions and intentions. Conversely, attendance would demonstrate confidence in the legality and propriety of their actions,
reassuring the public of their adherence to standard protocols.

Mr. Rangsiman further noted that the forum provided by the committee is an impartial platform grounded in scientific and legal principles, alleviating concerns about potential political maneuvering or harassment. The focus is on fact-finding and ensuring justice is served, rather than engaging in political gamesmanship.

Regarding the potential return of Ms. Yingluck Shinawatra for the Songkran festival next year, Mr. Rangsiman expressed caution in making predictions due to the volatile political climate. He stressed the importance of observing the legal mechanisms that would be employed should she return, acknowledging the complex political issues involving Mr. Thaksin’s family. He advocated for a resolution that addresses these issues without further complicating the legitimacy of political processes in Thailand.

Mr. Rangsiman concluded by reiterating the necessity of finding a viable solution to the political challenges facing Thailand, caut
ioning against employing unconventional methods that could undermine the country’s democratic framework.
