Rome’s Insight on Cambodia Stirs Discontent Among Thai Citizens

Aranyaprathet: ‘Rome’ knows what ‘Cambodia’ is thinking, provoking Thai people until many are dissatisfied. The House Committee on State Security closed the room to talk with “administrative and security” agencies to find a solution for the call center gang, drug trafficking, and human trafficking. “Rome” knew what “Cambodia” was thinking, provoking many Thais to the point of being dissatisfied, and taunted, “When it gets out of hand, the people on the border will be the first to suffer.” The “Deputy Provincial Secretary” reported that appropriate measures were taken into account, but Cambodia did not respond.

According to Thai News Agency, at the Ban Khlong Luek Customs Checkpoint, Aranyaprathet District, Sa Kaeo Province, the House of Representatives Committee on State Security, Thai Border Affairs, and National Strategy for National Reform led by Mr. Rangsiman Rome, a party-list MP from the Prachachon Party, as the chairman of the committee, attended a meeting to listen to a briefing and exchange opinions on border security issues, drug problems, human trafficking, and call center gangs, together with administrative agencies, the Central Investigation Bureau, the Department of Special Investigation (DSI), the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC), and Sa Kaeo Provincial Customs.

Mr. Rangsiman opened the meeting by saying that Sa Kaeo Province, especially Aranyaprathet District, is an important area for border trade. We ourselves know that it is still used between Thailand and Cambodia. Border trade must be admitted to be worth hundreds of billions of baht. Under the conflict that occurred between Thailand and Cambodia, it must be admitted that in the end it really has an impact, especially on the people. Moreover, in the area of Cambodia, there is a call center gang. From the information that I have received, there are coordinates, latitude, longitude that can be verified that there are many call center gangs, 50-60 locations. I believe that the actual number may be higher than that.

Today, amidst the conflict, I see it as an opportunity to solve the call center problem, but at the same time, it is also a challenge for us to manage border trade so that we can at least make a living with the least impact.

‘We know what Cambodia thinks. Cambodia wants to use the mechanism of the International Court of Justice and has tried to do some things. We have to admit that there may be provocations that make many Thais feel unhappy. Therefore, we must take this opportunity to explain that whenever the situation escalates, the people on the border will suffer first,’ said Mr. Rangsiman.

Mr. Rangsiman confirmed that we are not afraid of going to the International Court of Justice or the World Court, but we have seen that the court mechanism will not solve the problem, but will only make the people of both countries feel bad more. In the end, both countries will have to stay here. Therefore, we do not want some people to create a bad atmosphere, even though the people of both countries visit each other and have good relations with each other.

Then, Mr. Suthep Chaiwat, Deputy Governor of Sa Kaeo Province, reported that the major problems along the Thai-Cambodian border are illegal border crossing, migrant workers, smuggling of illegal goods, including drug and human trafficking problems. According to statistics in 2024, there were a total of 52 Thais accepted, totaling 211 people, while in 2025, there were a total of 56 Thais accepted back, totaling 380 people, using the National Referral Screening Center or NRM.

As for the proposal to build a border fence, Sa Kaeo Province proposed it when Mr. Phumtham Vejjayachai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense at the time, traveled to inspect the work. Currently, the government has assigned the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defense to study the feasibility.

The deputy governor of Sa Kaeo also said that the control of border crossings has a time limit that is appropriate to the situation and takes into account humanitarian principles. Cambodian workers who hold border passes are allowed to stay in Thailand until the end of their stay. The Burapha Force has allowed these workers to stay in Thailand temporarily, effective from June 23. As for the problem of exporting goods, the Burapha Force has relaxed transportation measures to allow vehicles from Thailand to Cambodia, but Cambodia has not responded to this.

Then, Mr. Rangsiman requested a secret meeting with various agencies, so he invited the media to leave the meeting room.
