Royal Crematorium Design Draft Underway for Queen Mother’s Ceremony

Bangkok: The construction of the Royal Crematorium for the Royal Cremation Ceremony of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother, is progressing with the drafting of its design. The Fine Arts Department is overseeing the project, aiming to submit the design for advisor consideration and royal approval.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Prasop Riangngen, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, shared the progress of this significant undertaking. The Fine Arts Department is tasked with both the design and construction of the crematorium, ensuring it honors Her Majesty the Queen Mother and aligns with ancient royal traditions. Ms. Sabida Thaiset, Minister of Culture, has directed the project to pay tribute to Her Majesty’s significance. Updates on the construction’s progress are provided every Thursday by the Fine Arts Department.

Mr. Phanombutr Chanthachoti, Director-General of the Fine Arts Department, mentioned that the draft design is intended for submission to advisors for their consideration and approval. The design will respect appropriateness and ancient royal customs while preserving elegance to honor His Majesty the King. Meetings of the working group are held every Wednesday.

The team involved in this project includes architects, interior designers, artists, artisans, and the Department of Music, all of whom were part of the construction of the Royal Crematorium for His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great, Rama IX. Former directors-general of the Fine Arts Department, previously engaged in similar projects, have been invited to serve as advisors.
