Bangkok: The Royal Thai Air Force has confirmed there is no threat after a suspicious aircraft was detected near the Thai border, opposite Amphoe Phop Phra in Tak Province. Air Chief Marshal Prapas Sornjaidee, spokesman for the Air Force, reported that at 1:03 p.m., two F-16 fighter jets from Wing 4 were dispatched from Takhli Airport. This action was taken after alert units identified a suspicious aircraft approaching the border.
According to Thai News Agency, the aircraft in question was identified as a YAK-130 high-performance plane. It was observed flying towards the Thai border at a short distance. In response, the Air Force conducted a verification flight and demonstrated a deterrent posture, adhering to standard procedures to monitor and assess the situation.
The aircraft subsequently altered its course and exited the vicinity of the Thai border at 13:16, without exhibiting any invasive behavior or intentions to compromise national security.
The Air Force assured that this incident is part of their routine mission to monitor and protect airspace, emphasizing their commitment to maintaining national sovereignty and ensuring public safety and confidence. Coordination with local security agencies continues for vigilant monitoring, with updates to be provided should new information emerge.
