Bangkok: The Royal Thai Army has firmly denied any violation of Cambodian sovereignty concerning the Prasat Ta Kwai case. The Army’s spokesperson addressed allegations from Cambodia, asserting that Thailand did not engage in any provocative actions or plans to use military force in the disputed area.
According to Thai News Agency, Army spokesman Major General Winthai Suvari responded to statements from the Cambodian Ministry of Defense regarding an interview with Lieutenant General Boonsin Phadklang, the Second Army Region Commander. Major General Suvari clarified that the commander’s comments were misinterpreted. He explained that Lieutenant General Phadklang did not imply any movement of troops to infringe on Cambodian territory. Instead, he stated that Ta Kwai Temple is under Thai sovereignty and acknowledged past clashes where attempts to seize the temple were made but ultimately failed.
Major General Suvari further elaborated that troops have been stationed 30 meters outside the temple and that future efforts would focus on regaining control through appropriate procedures. He emphasized that the commander plans to address these issues in an upcoming RBC meeting, reinforcing Thailand’s stance of maintaining its current troop deployment without resorting to military action. The Royal Thai Army stressed that there is no intention to provoke or plan an aggressive use of force as alleged by Cambodia.
