Royal Thai Army Launches Investigation into Alleged Abuse by Army Education Director.

Bangkok: The Royal Thai Army has initiated a formal investigation following allegations of physical abuse by the Director of the Army Education Department towards subordinates. The inquiry aims to address the complaint and potentially set a precedent for holding high-ranking officials accountable for misconduct.

According to Thai News Agency, Thanadet Phengsuk, Bangkok MP for the Prachachon Party and vice chairman of the Military Affairs Committee, disclosed that the committee had received a formal request to probe into accusations against the Director-General of the Army Education Department. The allegations involve inappropriate conduct, specifically the physical abuse of a non-commissioned officer.

Initial investigations, which included discussions with the victim’s family, have substantiated some aspects of the allegations. In response, the Army Commander has promptly established an investigation committee. This swift action is commendable, and if the allegations hold true, the case may serve as a signi
ficant example in disciplining high-ranking military officials, a move that has been infrequent in the past concerning violence within the army.

Mr. Thanadet emphasized the gravity of the situation, noting that the Military Committee will prioritize this issue in upcoming meetings and will closely monitor the proceedings to ensure justice is served.
