Bangkok: The Royal Thai Army has declared its commitment to an impartial investigation in the case involving the Director of the Army Education Department, who is accused of assaulting subordinates. The Army has emphasized that there will be no protection or exceptions for the accused, reflecting the policy of the Army Commander to uphold human rights and the law against torture.

According to Thai News Agency, Army spokesman Colonel Thitrach Sombatsiri has reiterated the Army’s stance on this matter, highlighting that the investigation must be thorough and fair to all parties involved. The complaint was filed with the Military Committee against Lieutenant General Narong Suankaew, leading to the establishment of a fact-finding committee. The Army is committed to ensuring that the policy against physical assault is strictly enforced, with no exceptions granted based on rank.

Colonel Thitrach assured that despite the passage of eight days since the committee was formed on November 11, 2024, the investigation r
emains ongoing. He emphasized the necessity of a cautious approach due to the accused’s high rank but guaranteed justice for the victim, who is a junior soldier. The spokesman insisted that the outcome would not be influenced by the accused’s position.

The investigation committee comprises high-ranking military officers and operates independently from the Department of Military Studies. The Army Commander has instructed that all unit commanders prioritize human rights and compliance with the Prevention of Torture and Enforced Disappearance Act. This directive underscores the Army’s commitment to fairness and accountability.
