Bangkok: Safari World has been granted permission by the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation to partially reopen its wild animal zones, specifically the tiger and lion zones, after meeting comprehensive safety standards. However, lions will be restricted from entering tourist areas, with ongoing monitoring of safety protocols.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Atthaphon Charoenchansa, Director-General of the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation, announced that Safari World Public Company Limited has been authorized to open Tiger Zone 1 and Tiger Zone 2 for tourists. The Lion Zone will only operate on a drive-through basis under stringent supervision. Lions will not be released into the area until wildlife experts conduct a thorough behavioral assessment.
This decision follows the company’s efforts to enhance safety, animal welfare, and area management in accordance with recommendations from the Department of National Parks. Operational improvements include the installation of CCTV cameras at crucial points for emergency monitoring, construction of a double safety fence, and adjustments to the display area boundaries to prevent animal escapes. Additionally, the viewing routes and rest stops for animal observation have been upgraded for better safety.
Safari World has also invested in training its animal care staff and safety personnel to deepen their understanding of animal behavior and emergency management. Emergency response plans, known as the Emergency and Safari Safety Plan, have been developed and rehearsed to cover all potential situations.
Concerning the lions in the Behavioral Adjustment Zone, Mr. Atthaphon stated that the Department has mandated the company to conduct behavior adjustments under wildlife expert supervision. Continuous behavior assessments will determine if the lions can be integrated into the exhibit area if deemed non-aggressive and safe for humans.
The Director-General stressed that all Safari World operations must adhere to the Zoo and Wildlife Protection Act of 2019 and international animal welfare standards, ensuring the safety of animals, staff, and visitors. Safari World Public Company Limited has announced that starting Monday, October 13, 2025, the “Predator Zone (Tiger Zone)” will reopen to the public. The popular Safari Feeding activity will also resume, inviting tourists back for a complete experience.
