Santi Promphat Addresses Ministerial Qualification Rumors

Bangkok: Santi Promphat recently addressed the rumors surrounding his qualifications to serve as a minister.

According to Thai News Agency, Santi admitted that his extensive 30-40 years of education might be a factor contributing to questions about his eligibility for the ministerial position. He acknowledged the widespread ethics issues in the Settha era, describing them as larger than the sea, and did not deny proposing his son as a potential replacement.

In an interview, Santi discussed the rumors regarding his qualifications, stating that his resume was submitted only on the evening of September 9th and that no official response had been received. He expressed confidence in his qualifications despite acknowledging a potential incident from 30-40 years ago when he was a child.

Santi elaborated on the current emphasis on ethics, noting how it has become a significant concern in the wake of Mr. Settha’s case. He emphasized that the circulating news is primarily based on rumors and that the investigation’s outcome remains to be seen.

When questioned about his plans if found unqualified, Santi mentioned his son, who holds degrees from institutions in England, America, and Chulalongkorn University, as a capable candidate. He highlighted his son’s extensive experience and political acumen, suggesting he could fill the position if necessary.

Santi stated that his son could potentially join as a consultant or in another role, should the need arise. He confirmed that his son’s qualifications were being verified and mentioned his previous roles as Deputy Minister of Public Health, Deputy Minister of Finance, Minister of the Prime Minister’s Office, and Minister of Social Development and Transport, asserting that he had not engaged in any wrongdoing.

Regarding the link between qualifications and education, Santi clarified that his past education was indeed a factor but reiterated that he had not committed any infractions and awaited official notification.
