Bangkok: Sapphasitthiprasong Hospital has announced the temporary cancellation of admissions for Cambodian patients, citing ongoing unrest along the Thai-Cambodian border that has raised national security concerns. The hospital has also put a hold on the services of a Cambodian language communication assistant.
According to Thai News Agency, the decision was formalized yesterday, coinciding with a visit from Lt. Gen. Boonsin Phadklang, Commander of the 2nd Army Region, who provided support to individuals injured in the border unrest. During his visit, he also extended encouragement to the medical and nursing staff at Sapphasitthiprasong Hospital.
Dr. Monchai Wiwattanasithiphong, Director of the hospital, along with the executive team, briefed Lt. Gen. Phadklang on the ongoing medical care for the injured and discussed preparations for emergency medical responses in the border areas. The hospital has been actively treating both Thai and foreign patients, including Cambodians, who frequently seek medical attention there.
In an official statement, Sapphasitthiprasong Hospital outlined several resolutions aimed at addressing the situation. These include the temporary cessation of work by Cambodian language communication assistants and foreign language volunteers, the suspension of SMC Premium services, and the halting of substitute medication. Additionally, the hospital will not be accepting new cases involving Cambodian patients, and existing patients from Cambodia will be restricted to specific areas within the hospital.
These measures will be in effect from 31 July 2025 to 10 August 2025, as stated by Dr. Thawatchai Thongprasert, President of the Special Clinic outside of office hours. The hospital aims to ensure safety and maintain order during this period of heightened tension along the border.
