Muay Thai Festival in Honor of His Majesty the King’s 72nd Birthday Anniversary, Muay Thai Youth Amateur World Championship 2024 “IFMA Youth World Championships 2024” at Paragon Hall, Siam Paragon, from September 13-19, free admission for boxing fans. The International Federation of Muay Thai Associations (IFMA), in collaboration with the Amateur Muay Thai Association of Thailand (AMTAT) and the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT), is organizing the competition to expand the base of Muay Thai sports worldwide and to support the policy of the Thai government under the leadership of Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra, Prime Minister, to promote “Muay Thai sports” to become a soft power. There are young Thai boxers from around the world, members of IFMA, participating in the competition, more than 100 countries, approximately 2,000 athletes and 1,500 people involved, totaling approximately 3,500 people. On September 15, the 2024 IFMA Youth World Championships entered its third day of competition, with 156 matches, including the second round and the quarterfinals, while Thai boxers competed in 13 categories.
The highlight is the 60kg female 16-17 years old quarter-finals, “Phet Baiyok Korat Sports School” Piyawan Unkongpanaw defeated Katell Coquet from France 30-27, advancing to the semi-finals to meet Alayna Korkmaz from Turkey, who has already secured a bronze medal.
After the match, Petch Baiyok said that it was quite a tiring fight because not only did he rest for a long time, his opponent was also quite big, making it difficult to fight. In addition, there was the issue of the air in the hall being quite cold, so he had to warm up. Nasser Al-Nuwaisir, a boxer from Uzbekistan, said that the competition was organized with very good standards. The competition area was quite large and there were 4 stages. As an athlete, he really liked having so many stages.
‘I hope that this competition will set a good standard for the future Olympic Games, and I personally want to be a Muay Thai boxer to compete in the Olympic Games,’ said the Saudi Arabian boxer.
