Bangkok: The situation on the Thai-Cambodian border remains stable, with enhanced security measures implemented at Ban Nong Chan in Sa Kaeo Province. Authorities are set to monitor the outcomes of the General Border Committee (GBC) meeting in Koh Kong tomorrow.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Jirayu Huangsap, Government Spokesperson and a member of the Thai-Cambodian Border Situation Administration Committee (TCASAB), reported that the overall status at 11 border locations across seven provinces remains unchanged. The Thai military is maintaining a heightened state of readiness, with 24-hour surveillance to monitor Cambodian activities and prevent any encroachments on Thai sovereignty.
The 2nd Army Region has received reports indicating that both nations continue to hold their positions. Observations have noted Cambodian activities, including the deployment of drones and efforts to reinforce strongholds using sandbags and logs. In response, the Thai military has positioned personnel to closely observe the situation and is prepared to act if sovereignty is threatened.
In a related development, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has addressed Cambodia’s protest concerning Thailand’s statements, which allegedly caused distress to the Cambodian community in Ban Nong Chan. Thailand has reiterated its stance that the area is historically Thai territory and has consistently provided refuge during wartime, adhering to Thai law and international norms.
From September 7-10, 2025, the GBC will convene in Koh Kong Province, Cambodia, to evaluate progress and ensure adherence to the agreements made during the August 7, 2025, GBC meeting in Malaysia. This meeting is aimed at resolving tensions along the Thai-Cambodian border and restoring normalcy swiftly.
Mr. Jirayu emphasized the government’s commitment to addressing the border situation despite political transitions. He assured that all relevant ministries and agencies will continue to collaborate and allocate resources to assist those affected by the situation, including providing support to individuals and officials safeguarding national sovereignty.
