Security teams deployed at Mandalika Circuit commence operation

Teams of security officers dispatched for the Mandalika International Street Circuit hosting international events this November commenced operation after the West Nusa Tenggara Police Head presided over the security personnel’s first morning briefing.

“All personnel and equipment of security teams have been deployed to their assigned points for the security operation,” Nusa Tenggara Police Head Inspector General Mohammad Iqbal stated after briefing security officers involved in the operation here on Thursday.

During the briefing, the police head instructed officers deployed for the operation to conduct their duty in a professional manner and showcase their best abilities for the operation’s success, as their role is essential to boosting Indonesia’s image as the host of international sports events at the Mandalika Circuit.

A total of three thousand security officers — 2,058 police officers from the West Nusa Tenggara Police; 300 military officers; 465 officers from government institutions; and 408 police officers from Police Headquarters in Jakarta — are involved in the operation, code-named 2021 Mandalika Rinjani Operation, according to Iqbal.

The police head confirmed that the equipment dispatched for the operation comprised two boats and a helicopter from the Marine and Air Police Corps; 35 two-wheeled and 24 four-wheeled vehicles from the Traffic Police Corps; 16 tactical vehicles from the Mobile Brigade Corps; two command centre cars from the Police IT Division; and 13 special vehicles from the Police’s Security Maintenance Agency.

Apart from the vehicles, 19 police dogs from the Police’s Security Maintenance Agency, five bomb disposal teams, and five drone operator teams from the Mobile Brigade Corps are also mobilised for the security operation, he stated.

The security operation area is not limited to the Mandalika Circuit complex but also to the surrounding areas, such as hotels, beaches, and all premises considered vital within the Mandalika Special Economic Zone, Iqbal stated.

The safety of race spectators, participants, crews, and other visitors is the main objective of the operation, the police head affirmed.

“The operation will showcase the personnel’s preparedness for securing international events in the circuit,” Iqbal remarked.

The Mandalika International Street Circuit would host the 2021 Idemitsu Asia Talent Cup (IATC) on Friday (Nov 12), followed by the World Superbike (WSBK) championship taking place next Friday (Nov 19).
