Senate Committee to Address Concerns Over ‘Ms. K.’ Case Affecting Buddhist Faith

Bangkok: The Senate Religious Affairs Committee is preparing to call on agencies to clarify the case of ‘Ms. K.’ due to its sensitive nature affecting the faith of Buddhists. The committee emphasizes the need for urgent measures to control monastic discipline and protect reputable monks from being unjustly associated with misconduct.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Atcharaphan Homrot, Senator and Secretary of the Senate Committee on Religion, Morality, Ethics, Arts and Culture, highlighted the significance of the case involving a senior monk. She noted that it has caused Buddhists to lose faith in their religion. Ms. Atcharaphan stressed the importance of a strict and constructive approach in managing monastic discipline, particularly concerning the roles of the Sangha Supreme Council and other supervisory agencies. These agencies must operate with clarity and transparency, ensuring that innocent monks are not negatively impacted by the actions of a few.

Ms. Atcharaphan stated, “Next week, the Religious Affairs Committee will meet to discuss the case and will consider inviting relevant agencies to clarify or provide information because it is a major issue that affects the faith of Buddhists nationwide. We do not agree with any actions that undermine the faith of the people in Buddhism and will not allow senior monks or monks who are like the shadow of the Dharma to be lumped together because of the behavior of just a few people.”

Ms. Atcharaphan concluded by expressing the committee’s concern over stereotypes that damage the reputation of monks who are committed to practicing their faith correctly. She emphasized that monks serve as the spiritual foundation of Thai society, and the committee is determined to address behaviors that undermine public faith. Efforts will focus on working with all sectors to implement concrete measures that protect and stabilize Buddhism.
