Senator Thanatchaphong Denies Involvement in Forged Signature Scandal

Bangkok: Senator Thanatchaphong Wongmulalee stated that he is unaware of who forged the signatures of 136 senators on an impeachment petition. He emphasized his lack of intent to remove any senators from office and mentioned that the signatures of two other individuals were also forged, leading to an incomplete list of supporters for the petition.

According to Thai News Agency, Senator Thanatchaphong made a record at Bang Pho Police Station on August 6th after discovering his signature had been forged on documents submitted to the Constitutional Court. These documents aimed to impeach 136 senators. The Senate President’s Office confirmed that the signature did not match the one he had previously provided. Thanatchaphong explained that he made the record as a preventive measure against potential harm and not with the intent to prosecute.

Senator Thanatchaphong disclosed that similar cases have been reported, with the office already notified to investigate. He noted that currently, fewer than 20 people have signed the petition. As a new senator, his focus remains on serving the people and the nation rather than seeking to remove anyone from office.

He clarified that it is not within the Senate’s jurisdiction to stop officials from performing their duties or to interfere with the Election Commission’s work. When questioned about the potential impact on his relations with other senators, Thanatchaphong stated he had not engaged in any conflicts or opposition. He emphasized the importance of transparency and honesty if such petitions are to be pursued.

Senator Thanatchaphong, who has been in office for three months, reiterated that he does not have the authority to impeach anyone and came into the role with the intention of fulfilling his responsibilities. Drawing a parallel to his past as a football player, he stressed that resolved matters should remain so, and he seeks to avoid unnecessary prolongation of issues.

Reporters noted that Thanatchaphong filed a report at Bang Pho Police Station on August 6th after receiving a photo of a document purportedly bearing his signature, which he did not sign. Concerned for his safety and that of his family, he filed the report as evidence without the intention of pressing charges.
