Bangkok: Seven sports associations have set an ambitious target of securing 24 gold medals in the third round of the SEA Games Meet the Press.
According to Thai News Agency, these associations unveiled their plans and objectives during the Meet the Press SEA Games 2025, Round 3 event. The sports categories targeted include Extreme sports, aiming for 6 gold medals, while Jet Ski, Billiards and Snooker, and Water Sports each aim for 4 gold medals. Wrestling, Rock Climbing, and E-Sports are collectively aiming for at least 2 gold medals. Across the three Meet the Press events, 21 associations have set a collective goal of winning 88 gold medals.
The press conference, held at Rajamangala National Stadium and presided over by Mr. Paitoon Chutimakornkul, President of the Sports Photojournalist Association of Thailand, was attended by executives from the seven sports associations. The event began with a 93-second moment of silence in memory of His Majesty the King, in honor of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother.
Mr. Pichan Prayoonrat, Secretary-General of the Amateur Wrestling Association of Thailand, shared insights into the wrestling team’s preparations. With 12 gold medals up for grabs in wrestling, the association has sent 10 athletes to a training camp in South Korea and two female athletes to Mongolia, aiming for gold in the women’s 53kg and 51kg freestyle categories. Vietnam, noted as a strong competitor, is among the four countries participating in this round.
