Sgt. Bird Exposes Cambodian Commanders Behind Mine Laying Incidents

Bangkok: “Sgt. Bird” has unveiled the identities of the six Cambodian unit commanders responsible for the deployment of lethal landmines that have resulted in injuries to Thai soldiers. The Thai military has taken a firm stance against Cambodia, emphasizing that ambushes and protests have not been effective strategies.

According to Thai News Agency, Maj. Gen. Wanchana Sawatdee, Director of the Office of Security Coordination with the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC), posted on Facebook regarding the situation. He relayed that the Chief of Staff of the Army has reiterated a strong commitment to the Second Army Region. During a border inspection at six specific locations where Thai soldiers encountered landmines, General Manas Chandi, Chief of Staff, stated, “Since Cambodia is ambushing, protest letters are ineffective. We respond immediately and proportionately. We already know the military location of the confronting forces.” He also shared photos and names of Cambodian soldiers involved in planting anti-personnel bombs, highlighting the commanders of the six Cambodian units at the sites where the incidents occurred.

The first incident took place at Hill 481 in the Chong Bok area of ??Nam Yuen District on July 16, 2025. The 392nd Military Intelligence Battalion, commanded by Lt. Col. Chun Sophon, was identified as the confronting force.

The second incident occurred at Chong An Ma, Nam Yuen District, on July 23, 2025. Here, the 447th Infantry Regiment from Preah Vihear Province, led by Lt. Col. Juan Chet, was the confronting force.

The third incident was at Prasat Ta Kwai, Surin Province, on July 28, 2025. The 444th Infantry Regiment (Sn.) from Udon Meechai Provincial Military District, with Capt. Kol Won as commander, was involved. Capt. Kol Won sustained serious injuries from shrapnel during a clash.

The fourth incident took place at the Don Ao-Kritsana border, Sisaket Province, on August 9, 2025. The battalion involved was SSN.-381, under the command of Lt. Col. Nuan Paula.

The fifth incident occurred at Prasat Ta Muen Thom, Surin Province, on August 12, 2025. The confronting force was Battalion 422, commanded by Lt. Col. Sun Wa.

The sixth incident was again at Prasat Ta Kwai, Surin Province, on August 27, 2025. The 444th Infantry Battalion (Station) from Udon Meechai Provincial Military District, led by Lt. Col. Kol Won, was identified as the confronting force.

These incidents underscore the ongoing tension and the Thai military’s resolve to address confrontation with proportionate responses.
