Bangkok: Siriraj Hospital has awarded scholarships to 40 students from the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, as part of its ongoing initiative to foster medical potential in Thailand. The scholarship award ceremony was held at 10:00 a.m. in the Chulabhorn Conference Room at Siriraj Hospital, with Prof. Dr. Apichart Asawamongkolkul, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, presiding over the event. Dr. Surachai Suttiworachai, President of the Doctors for the People Foundation, presented the scholarships to the recipients.
According to Thai News Agency, Dr. Surachai explained that the foundation has been providing scholarships to medical students entering their 9th year. The scholarships are intended for students who excel academically but come from financially disadvantaged backgrounds. In 2023, over 400 scholarships were distributed, resulting in more than 100 medical students graduating. This year, the foundation aims to award over 500 scholarships, both to new and existing
recipients.
The selection process for the scholarships involves strict adherence to established criteria. The Faculty of Medicine is responsible for identifying candidates based on their academic performance and financial need. The names of the selected students are then forwarded to the foundation, where a subcommittee reviews them before making recommendations to the scholarship provider. The students are required to undergo an interview as part of the final selection process. Scholarships are awarded annually, with a review conducted each year for students reapplying for support.
