Bangkok: Social media users are praising a handsome young convenience store employee who saved a drowning cat and brought it to shore safely. Despite not being able to swim, he tried to find a way to save it.
According to Thai News Agency, a Facebook user named YEEN THAMONWAN (Jeans Thamon-Wan) posted a clip of a young man struggling to save a cat that had fallen into the water. The caption reads, ‘Nong Petch, my nephew, saved a cat that had fallen into the water. He himself can’t swim.’
In the clip, a cat can be seen floating in the middle of the canal. The young man tried to use a branch to reach out for the cat to cling to, but was unsuccessful. The cat struggled until it reached the edge of the canal. The young man decided to hold onto the railing and lower his legs into the water so that the cat could grab onto his leg and pull him up. It was just as he had hoped. The cat really did cling onto his leg, so the young man tried to pull himself up. Although it looked difficult, both the cat and the person were safe in the end. Netizens greatly admired the young man’s kindness. Even though he himself could not swim, he tried to find a way to help until he succeeded, drawing a lot of applause and comments of praise from netizens.
In addition, Ms. Jarintip, the young man’s mother, also revealed a chat in which she complimented her son, saying that her son was amazing, that he saved animals and gained merit, and that in the future her son’s life would be lucky. She also asked, “Do I need to buy new shoes?” Her son replied, “I think I’ll buy new ones.” The mother laughed and showed affection for her son. For this handsome young man, Mr. Jakkapan or “Phet”, 19 years old, is a convenience store employee at the Talad Dee branch, Saem Dam, Saem Dam Subdistrict, Bang Khun Thian District, Bangkok. The incident occurred on the morning of March 25.
Mr. Jakkapan said that he was not a strong swimmer, had never played in a canal, and was worried that his work clothes would get wet. Rescuing the cat was therefore difficult. He hung on to help the cat for about 10 minutes until he was able to successfully rescue it. He was exhausted and had already rescued the cat while he was still hanging on. He noticed that someone was rushing to help, but he used his strength to pull himself up. In the end, both the cat and him were safe. Meanwhile, the cat’s owner thanked him for helping, assuming that the cat might have run away or chased each other until they accidentally fell into the canal.
