SOEs Minister highlights need for job creation roadmap

State-Owned Enterprises Minister Erick Thohir has stressed the importance of preparing a job creation roadmap that is in line with Industry 4.0.

Indonesia will reach a demographic bonus, with the majority of its population aged under 40. In 2035, the population will increase by 50 million people.

“That means we have to prepare a job creation roadmap that is in line with Industry 4.0,” he added during an online discussion here on Thursday.

He said he has appointed many young leaders in SOEs as part of their transformation and also as a reminder to seniors in SOEs about the importance of regeneration.

“That is why sustainability is important. We have to anticipate the demographic bonus by preparing a roadmap for job creation. Do not try to go digital without thinking about the workforce aspect,” he emphasized.

Minister Thohir also invited all stakeholders to synergize with each other regarding job creation.

“We have to sit down together to make sure of our achievement in digitalization. We will push it and the transformation will be accelerated. We are also creating new entrepreneurs, with the MSME (micro, small, and medium enterprises) sector as the backbone, in line with job creation as well,” he added.

Earlier, Thohir had said that the transformation of traditional industries to Industry 4.0 requires a roadmap.

He further said he had asked the State-Owned Bank Association (Himbara) and state-owned telecommunication company Telkom to adapt to the open market and competition with foreign and private players to create sustainable business.

He also asked SOEs in other clusters to follow the adaptations and good steps that have been taken by Himbara and Telkom for winning the global competition.
