Some 1.6 million teachers use Independent Teaching platform: Minister

Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Nadiem Anwar Makarim confirmed that as many as 1.6 million teachers had used the Independent Teaching platform.

“This platform helps teachers to access qualified teaching materials and independent training anytime, anywhere, and also helps teachers to inspire colleagues and connect with many teacher communities in the country,” Makarim stated at a working meeting with Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) that was monitored virtually from here Monday.

The minister said the application that was made within six months has also received a high rating, as the features directly addressed requests from teachers.

Currently, some 55 thousand pieces of independent training content are available in the training, Makarim revealed.

“In the past, the costs for training on curriculum changes could reach Rp2 trillion for one year. Now, imagine all the changes in our curriculum transition to train 144 thousand schools through one platform only. We can imagine how much budget can be saved,” he stated.

According to Makarim, the platform was able to create 3,500 teachers’ communities with 92 thousand pieces of content that had been uploaded by teachers. On that platform, teachers become the creators of content that was useful to other teachers.

“This platform is also used for the transition of a new curriculum, a platform for self-study as well as assessments for teachers looking to test their students regarding literacy and numeracy,” Makarim explained.

The minister said his side also has an Education Report Card platform that provides the results of national assessments for each education unit and region. Thus, the school can check literacy and numeracy capability, the level of bullying, and others.

From another aspect of digital transformation, the ministry also provides an Independent Campus platform that connects students, industry, and the social sector. In addition, there are programs, such as ARKAS, SIPLah, and TanyaBOS, that help with school administration.
