Los angeles: ‘La Boo Boo’ is set to hit the big screen soon.
According to Thai News Agency, the Hollywood Reporter announced on Friday that Sony Pictures has reached an agreement to develop a film centered around the globally popular Labubu doll. The project is currently in its early stages, and it is yet to be determined whether the film will be a live-action or animated production.
La Boo Boo, a creation of China’s Pop Mart, has become a worldwide sensation. The Labubu doll gained popularity through endorsements by celebrities such as Rihanna and Blackpink’s Lisa, leading to a frenzy of customers eager to purchase the dolls. These toys are sold in blind boxes, adding an element of surprise as buyers do not know which version they have until opening the package.
Sony Pictures, known for producing successful film franchises such as “Jumanji” and the animated Netflix hit “KPop Demon Hunters,” is set to expand its portfolio with this new project. The decision to bring the Labubu doll to the big screen reflects the growing trend of adapting popular toys and collectibles into films, capitalizing on their established fan base.
