Bangkok: Srisuwan Janya, leader of the Love the Nation, Love the Country organization, has urgently filed a petition with the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC). The request calls for an investigation into Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, acting on behalf of the Prime Minister, Phumtham Wechayachai. He has previously admitted to submitting a royal decree to dissolve Parliament yesterday, despite lacking legal authority. This action violates the constitution and other laws, and seriously violates ethical standards. The case will be forwarded to the Supreme Court or the Supreme Court’s Criminal Division for Holders of Political Positions for further consideration and prosecution.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Srisuwan stated that after the Constitutional Court ruled that Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra’s personal tenure as Prime Minister ceased on July 1, 2025, and that upon the end of her ministerial term, the entire Cabinet must resign. Members of the House of Representatives and various political parties have since attempted to unite to support the individual whom the parties have resolved to propose to the House of Representatives for approval as Prime Minister, pursuant to Section 88 of the 2017 Constitution. The House Secretariat has also scheduled a meeting to elect a new Prime Minister.
“The People’s Party, which has the largest number of MPs in Parliament, did not support the Pheu Thai Party, leading Mr. Bhumtham to submit a request for royal dissolution of the House of Representatives, even though the House of Representatives has committed no wrongdoing. Holding a new election before the end of the term would cost billions of baht in taxpayer money, simply to ensure his party maintains power and maintain the government. Many academics, experts, former judges, and even the Secretary-General of the Council of State have asserted that the dissolution of Parliament cannot be exercised, but they still violate it. Such behavior, in addition to being a malfeasance under Section 157 of the Criminal Code and violating Sections 3 and 6 of the 2017 Constitution, is also considered an act that could offend His Majesty the King and a serious breach of ethical standards,” said Mr. Srisuwan.
