Suradej Calls for Cancellation of GBC Agreement Following Thai Soldier’s Injury

Bangkok: Suradej Yasawat, deputy leader of the Palang Pracharath Party (PPRP), has urged the government to annul the GBC agreement after a Thai soldier lost a leg due to a landmine incident attributed to Cambodian violations. He is pressing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to take prompt action and pursue legal measures against Cambodia.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Suradej commented on the incident where a Thai soldier was injured while on patrol near Wat Ta Muen Thom Temple in Surin Province. He expressed that the recurring nature of such events indicates Cambodia’s breach of sincerity and respect for the agreement. Suradej believes that the agreements made at the GBC meeting should be nullified as talks have proven ineffective. He stressed the urgency for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to notify international organizations about Cambodia’s actions, emphasizing the need for Thailand to protect its sovereignty.

Mr. Suradej also criticized the army’s call for concertina wire donations, pointing out the government’s sluggish response despite having emergency funds available. He questioned the necessity for the army to seek donations when the government could allocate resources promptly.

He further stated, “Personally, I think we need to cancel all negotiations. We don’t need to discuss the 13-point agreement anymore. From now on, it’s an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. We can’t allow our soldiers to lose limbs or die endlessly. Otherwise, our people will be demoralized.”

Suradej underscored the need for decisive action against Cambodia’s provocations, including drone incursions that have alarmed local residents. He advocated for the deployment of modern technology to safeguard soldiers, suggesting the use of explosive ordnance detection and disposal robots to prevent further casualties from landmines.
