Surawong Clarifies No Request Made for Royal Approval to Dissolve Parliament

Bangkok: Surawong explained that he has not yet submitted a request for royal approval to dissolve parliament. He emphasized his belief that returning power to the people is the best course of action for the Pheu Thai Party.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Sorawong Thienthong, Minister of Tourism and Sports and Secretary-General of the Pheu Thai Party, posted a statement on Facebook at 6:00 PM. He addressed several news headlines suggesting that he had indicated the process of dissolving Parliament had begun. Mr. Sorawong clarified that his intention was to express the Pheu Thai Party’s belief that returning power to the people is the right course of action.

He further explained that dissolving Parliament falls under royal prerogative, and the process depends on the person acting on behalf of the Prime Minister. He emphasized that no request has been submitted to His Majesty yet.
